Integrations

Mailchimp integration

Admin connects; Agents can push

Connect your own Mailchimp account to send marketing email from there instead of (or alongside) Beagle's built-in campaigns. You pick a filtered list of contacts in Beagle and push them into one of your Mailchimp audiences; you then design and send the campaign inside Mailchimp, using your own templates, sending domain and reputation. Beagle's own campaigns and journeys keep working exactly as before — this sits alongside them, it does not replace them.

One extra step for unsubscribes

After connecting, add a webhook in Mailchimp so unsubscribes reach Beagle. The Integrations page walks you through it and shows the exact address to paste. There are four steps and the last one is not optional:

  1. In Mailchimp, open your audience → SettingsWebhooksCreate New Webhook.
  2. Paste the callback URL that the Integrations page shows you.
  3. Tick Unsubscribes (and cleaned addresses if offered), then save.
  4. Mailchimp then shows a signing secret once, and never again. Copy it straight away and paste it into the Save secret box on the Integrations page.

Beagle rejects every webhook delivery until that signing secret is stored, so stopping after step 3 leaves you in exactly the failure described below — with a webhook that looks correctly set up in Mailchimp. The panel tells you which state you are in: Not set up until the secret is saved, Active afterwards. Saving an empty value removes the stored secret and silently stops unsubscribes arriving again, so only submit that box when you have a secret to paste. If you missed the secret, delete the webhook in Mailchimp and create it again to be shown a new one.

All four steps, the signing secret included. Until that is done, someone who unsubscribes in Mailchimp will keep receiving your Beagle campaigns and journeys.

Unsubscribes are honoured in both directions

If someone unsubscribes in Mailchimp, Beagle records it too and will stop including them in Beagle campaigns and journeys. If you suppress someone in Beagle, that unsubscribe is pushed to Mailchimp. An opt-out anywhere is an opt-out everywhere.

Opting back in is never automatic in either direction — consent has to be re-granted deliberately, in whichever system the contact gave it.

Connecting your account

Go to Settings → Integrations and choose Connect Mailchimp. You will be sent to Mailchimp to approve access and then returned to Beagle. Beagle never sees your Mailchimp password — only an access token. Disconnect here deletes Beagle's copy of that token, so Beagle stops talking to Mailchimp; it does not revoke the grant inside Mailchimp. To withdraw the authorisation itself, remove it from your own Mailchimp account settings as well.

Which Integrations card? Two cards in the Comms group of Organisation Settings carry that same title. You want the first one, directly under AI summaries, described “Connect Mailchimp to send marketing email from your own account”. The second, below Webhooks, is for connected apps such as Zapier and has no Mailchimp settings on it at all. Organisation Settings is Admin-only, so this is a page only an Admin can open.

Only an Admin can connect or disconnect, because the settings page itself is Admin-only. An Agent can still push a segment to Mailchimp from a campaign once the connection exists. If the option says Mailchimp is not configured on this server, contact your Beagle administrator.

What syncs, and when

  • Contacts you choose → Mailchimp. Nothing is sent automatically. You filter a list in Beagle and push it to a named audience, so you stay in control of who is added.
  • Tags travel with the contact so you can segment on them inside Mailchimp.
  • Unsubscribes come back once the webhook is set up. Someone who opts out in Mailchimp is tagged Mailchimp:unsubscribed in Beagle and stops receiving your Beagle campaigns and journeys. A cleaned (undeliverable) address is tagged Mailchimp:invalid and a spam report Mailchimp:spam; all three suppress the contact.
  • Already unsubscribed in Beagle? They are skipped on push rather than being re-added.

Pushing a list to an audience

Pushing happens from your campaign segments, so you reuse the same filters you already build for Beagle campaigns — there is no separate list builder. Segments belong to the organisation rather than to a campaign, so every campaign's Segments tab shows the same list.

  1. Open Campaigns, go into any campaign, and switch to the Segments tab — the list is the same on every campaign. Find the segment holding the contacts you want to send to.
  2. On that segment, open the Push to Mailchimp… dropdown and choose the destination audience. (The dropdown only appears once Mailchimp is connected.)
  3. Confirm. The push runs in the background and Beagle shows a summary — how many contacts were added, and how many were skipped because they had already opted out or were never opted in.

Only Admins and Agents can push. A segment matching more than 5,000 contacts is refused outright — nothing at all is pushed, and you are told the segment exceeds the cap — so narrow the filter and push in smaller pieces. Contacts keep their Beagle tags in Mailchimp so you can segment on them there.

Good to know

  • You need your own Mailchimp plan. Beagle connects to an account you already pay for; it does not include one.
  • Composing and sending happen in Mailchimp. Open and click statistics for those sends live in Mailchimp's reports, not in Beagle's campaign performance tab. Beagle's own campaigns still report their figures as normal.
  • One Mailchimp account per organisation. Reconnecting replaces the existing link.
  • Deleting the connection does not delete anything in Mailchimp. Contacts you already pushed stay in your audience; Beagle simply stops sending and stops receiving unsubscribes.
